The content most of my work this semester reflects my experience studying abroad in Australia last year. I spent a semester studying at La Trobe University in Melbourne. By far, the best experience of my life! I learned so much about myself and what I was capable of. I met people from around the world and studied alot of Aboriginal art and culture. I also learned alot about the way I want to live my life. These ideas are reflected in writting, pictures, and Aboriginal symbols in much of my prints. I worked the most with "time" this past semester. I used a clock and messed up the numbers and structure of our everyday lives. Before I went abraod I was stuck to my daily planner, watch, and routine. I didn't leave time to enjoy life and the people in it. I am constantly reminded of these ideas when I make my prints. I am still working on SLOWING DOWN my life... but not my prints!

Color, finally!! I am loving the color world of printmaking, and soo much to learn. I have so many more mistakes I have to make before I get the gist of it. I started out experimenting with painting colors on old prints as I did in "flowers" and "too often", then began to experiment with multi plate color in "my journey" and "huggers". I found this to be a confusing process which I want to work a bit more with. Then I started a series about kids around the world. I started off with some images of kids I worked with at YMCA camp where I basically grew up myself, and then moved on to a little surfer boy I saw on a beach in Australia. He was about five years old and could surf better than I will ever be able to.

These are some prints from my baby years. In "Smile" I used a reductive method with steel wool after etching way too dark in the face. On "Flower" I forgot the plate in the acid over thanksgiving break which gave me a very thick dark line etch. We can always learn from our mistakes, and sometimes get something real sweet that we would never have known was possible if we hadn't taken that chance and messed up!
